UFO’s and aliens are the hot topic once again in the media and the resurgence of talks about aliens, as well as the upcoming feature “No One Will Save You” coming to Hulu on Friday, I listed five great movies based around UFO’s and Aliens. These five films are truly good movies centered on the topic of aliens and UFO’s, and they’re the perfect appetizer to ring in the arrival of what I hope will be another in a long line of great alien based horror movies.

Let me know in the comments what some of your favorite UFO movies are.

Fire in the Sky (1993)
Streaming on MAX
Based on the alleged abduction of Travis Waltonin 1975, “Fire in the Sky” is a creepy, intense and engaging mystery that tries to piece together what’s been a largely controversial disappearance for decades. Whether or not you believe Walton was really abducted and experimented on by aliens, “Fire in the Sky” is a truly scary horror film packed to the gills with iconic and anxiety including imagery as well as some top notch make and creature effects, considering the film was released in 1993.

Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (1998)
Not Streaming Anywhere
A remake of “The McPherson Tapes,” sadly “Alien Abduction” has been imprisoned on VHS since 1998 thanks to copyright issues. However if you look hard enough online you can find it and it’s worth the journey. “Alien Abduction” is a spooky, eerie, and bizarre lo-fi TV horror film based around a family terrorized by invading aliens on Thanksgiving night. The lack of budget is hidden behind the found footage format and it works as a creepy treat with nightmarish aliens that are anything but cute or empathetic.

Signs (2002)
Streaming on MAX, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video
M. Night Shyamalan’s “Signs” has remained a hotly debated science fiction horror gem for years since its release. While there are some plot elements that are questionable, “Signs” excels as a movie about a broken family teetering on the edge of destruction who are put to the test when aliens begin invading the world. The tension and suspense escalates in to an all out siege, culminating in to a pretty wrenching and spooky story about faith, and the concept of fate.

Dark Skies (2013)
Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Redbox
Scott Stewart’s “Dark Skies” is a shockingly overlooked horror thriller about a small family being terrorized by aliens. The film is a dark and relentlessly grim tale about a pair of brothers being pursued non-stop by aliens that insist on visiting them at their most vulnerable. This prompts their mother, played by Keri Russell, to pursue any means of stopping them and trying to figure out why the aliens want them in the first place. “Dark Skies” is a spooky, eerie, and intense horror drama packed with some truly creepy, intense moments and a great final half.

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Streaming on Amazon Prime, and Redbox
Although not particularly an alien movie per se, this is a great movie about a woman taken by a man in to a bunker. After a car accident she awakens in his bunker where he’s convinced her that an alien invasion has ensued on the surface. As she and another survivor adapt and remain in the bunker, she decides to see for herself what’s happening outside the bunker once and for all. “10 Cloverfield Lane” is tense, well acted, and garners a great third act conveying themes about domestic abuse and our will to survive in a horrifying world.
